Home of the Cougars and Warriors

Welcome to the Baboquivari Secondary Campus website! We are located in Topawa, Arizona, on the Tohono O’odham Nation, approximately one and a half hours southwest of Tucson.

Our high school and middle school’s philosophy is based on "educating the whole person—academically, emotionally, socially, and culturally," and has proved to be a winning belief.

Here at Baboquivari Secondary Campus, we are proud of our native heritage and seek to inspire and educate students not only in the Arizona State Standards, but also in their Himdag—the cultural beliefs that the Tohono O’odham live by. We offer small class sizes perfect for hands-on experiential learning and quality one-to-one time with faculty and staff.

Spend some time getting to know us. We know you’ll like what you find.

Our Vision Statement

Our graduates will acquire the knowledge and skills to excel, develop their strengths, embrace their individual and cultural identities, and lead their communities.

Our Mission Statement

To realize our vision we will:

  • espouse a holistic student centered learning environment;
  • utilize a socio-cultural responsive pedagogy and method of service;
  • provide a critically multicultural curriculum;
  • create and engage in meaningful partnerships with families and community;
  • advocate for student and staff well-being;
  • implement innovative strategies and technologies; and
  • build on the foundation of Himdag, s-wagima, and other cultural traditions to create an atmosphere of respect, inclusion, and trust that promotes intellectualism and cultivates a love of learning

…so that all our graduates are college and career ready.

A Message from Our Principal

S-ke:g Taṣ, Secondary Families!

Welcome to 2021–2022 school year! We are excited to start the school year that includes the opportunity for students to return to campus in a hybrid model after more than a year of virtual learning and the opportunity for students to remain in a virtual setting!

This year will, no doubt, be another year of patience, understanding and flexibility as we adapt to this new model. A big thank you to our students, families, districts, and community organizations that were with us last year for your support as our schools, teachers, students, and families navigated virtual learning.

This year’s structure is different than anything we have ever done. The enclosed documents provide an overview of what you should know as your student(s) start the school year here at the secondary campus.

Highlights to note:

  • Safety protocols for hybrid students are required. These are non-negotiables and failure to abide by them can result in the student being assigned to the virtual learning model of the rest of the year.
  • The hybrid model includes group A and group B. Unfortunately, due to classroom size, limitations, transportation limitations, and the number of students opting to return in person, we cannot accommodate students with a traditional schedule.
    • Group A students will report to campus on Monday, July 19. Group B students will attend class virtually via Google Classroom.
    • Group B students will report to campus on Tuesday, July 20. Group A students will attend class virtually via Google Classroom.
  • We will mail out separate letters with group assignment and transportation information. Returning students will also receive the letter via their school email.
  • Student schedules will be emailed to their school email addresses.
  • While athletics has been approved for the upcoming school year, a formal plan has not yet been finalized. Please be patient with us as we finalize a plan for a safe return to athletics for the 2021–2022 school year.
    • I highly encourage that you begin to schedule physical exams as soon as possible to ensure that your student is ready to begin practice when we receive the green light.

We know that this year's learning model may pose challenges for students and families. If you encounter any challenges, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, our teachers, or our staff. We are committed to providing each student with the best opportunities for success.

July 19 is quickly approaching! We hope that you spend this next week or so getting back into the school routine!

We are excited to see what great things this year will bring and can't wait to celebrate the successes of our students and staff!
